The Greater Seattle Bureau of Fearless Ideas offers two after school tutoring programs. 2nd – 8th Grade Tutoring is Monday – Thursday from 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. High School Tutoring is Monday – Thursday from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Both tutoring programs schedules are based on the Seattle Public Schools’ calendar.
After-School Tutoring will take place back in our regular home at 8414 Greenwood Ave N. (The Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co.) barring any unforeseen circumstances.
It is free! All of our programs are offered free of charge and are funded by donations from the community.
Families will be notified of their student’s tutoring placement or waitlist status in late August. We know families need to organize their after-school schedules before school begins. We apologize for any inconvenience. Students in grades 9-12 can drop in during regular High School Tutoring hours (6-8 p.m.) beginning September 7. We ask high school students to register on their first visit.
Due to space constraints we are unable to accommodate all the students who apply for our 2nd– 8th Grade Tutoring. Should your student be placed on our waitlist, you will be notified if there is an opening. If your student’s schedule changes, please let us know. There could be an opening on one day, but not the other.
Unfortunately, no. We like to create an environment where students can be comfortable and productive. High School Tutoring is best when it is just for high school students.
We help students with their homework in all subject areas! During high school tutoring we have tutors who can help in advanced subjects from French to physics, statistics to Shakespeare. We can also help students with penmanship, organization, college applications, and more.
Our volunteer tutors have a wide range of backgrounds. Some have day jobs as engineers, copyeditors, or illustrators. Some are retired teachers or current college students. All of our volunteers receive training and are vetted.
Tutoring is open to all students from all schools.
Due to space constraints we must limit attendance for 2nd – 8th Grade Tutoring. On your registration, please indicate all the days your student is able to attend and we will do our best to find an opening. High School Tutoring is operated on a drop-in basis and students can attend as many days and for as long as they wish.
If your student is no longer able to attend on their scheduled day, please let us know and we may able to accommodate them. Especially at the beginning of the year, we will most likely be unable to change their schedule.
11. My student has some special needs that allow for extra support in school. Can I still enroll them?
Absolutely! We love working with all students. Please let us know what we should know on your registration form.
